I am a Financial Management Analysis Intern and it falls under the comptroller career field. We do budget; we do contracting and we do acquisition within the career field.
We do budget for the entire criminal investigation command, and right now I am working on a pilot program which is a debit card program that allows our agents to have access to money almost like instant pudding.
Training is par none. I've had more training being an intern at no cost to myself than I did in my five years of college. The job, the career advancement, where I work - I love it. No day is the same. Every day brings us new challenges; every day brings a new set of things to deal with. I get up in the morning and I never know what I'm walking into. But when I leave out of our building, I have a sense of, "Wow, that was nice. I had a good day." I've not had a bad day in my whole 16 months of being in my internship program.
And to serve the warfighter, I don't think that there's any greater honor than it is to make sure that they have what they need to keep us safe at home.
If you like to travel, if you want job enhancements, job opportunities, if you want to not limit yourself and your work experiences, and your knowledge, your skills and abilities, the Department of Defense's intern program is really where you want to be.

I'm in the Army Comptroller Program which is a two to three year program. The first year is primarily training where you do some class training and on-the-job-training at different locations. And the second year you have what we call rotational assignments.
With the rotations you get a chance to try different fields. For example, me, I've worked in a planning and programming department, worked in accounting; now, I'm doing coast analysis and later on I'm going to have an opportunity to work in a budgeting department. So you get kind of a broad based experience that shows you lots of different types of work and so you're not pigeonholed in from day one.
For me it was, I was amazed at how many opportunities were presented to the Department of Defense interns to get training, to go forward with your master's or your graduate education, and also to have an opportunity to do the rotational assignments which give you kind of a low risk opportunity to try out some different jobs and see if you have an aptitude for them or if you enjoy the work.
